Introduction

Giving priority to leading disciplines, SSPU develops the non-Engineering disciplines by following the principle of “based on Engineering, serving Engineering and supporting Engineering” to construct a discipline system with strengths in Engineering and well-coordinated development of multidisciplines including Management, Economics, Literature, Science and Arts. At present, SSPU has six disciplines including Engineering, Management, Economics, Literature, Science and Arts, Class IV Peak Discipline of Shanghai “Materials Science and Engineering” (participating), Class II Plateau Discipline of Shanghai “Materials Science and Engineering (Resource Recycling Science and Engineering). The University lays emphasis on research-driven teaching and actively carries out scientific researches that meet the needs of economic and social development and are in line with the layout and direction of disciplines and majors. In the long-term practice, a strong research force has been formed, which has undertaken over 100 national and provincial projects, including National Natural Science Foundation, the 863 Program, etc., producing about 100 science and technology achievements. Research funds increase significantly. And the patents keep growing both in number and quality.

 

The University established Shanghai Collaborative Innovation Centre for WEEE Recycling and 7 Cubic Science Park themed by science and technology, cultural creativity and smart manufacturing. Technology transfer working stations or industry-university-research working stations have been set up in Yangtze River Delta, developing extensive cooperative relationship with industries and enterprises, and providing professional technology service in the fields of Electronic and Automatic Control, Electromechanical Integration Technology, Computer and Information Technology, Environmental Engineering and New Materials, etc. To become a multidisciplinary university of applied sciences, SSPU gives full play to its own discipline advantages and characteristics, emphasizes research-driven teaching, strengthens applied research and development to promote industry-university collaboration, which accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. After years of development, the University has formed a discipline team with solid application foundation and research ability on applied technology to meet the demands of industries.        

  

Class IV Peak Discipline——Material Science and Engineering                                                                                                               

Focusing on the leading edge of Material Science and Engineering and significant issues in economic and social development, the University built up a discipline team of reasonable age structure, distinctive major concentration and international competitiveness. With energy conservation and new energy materials as its main research interests, SSPU becomes a domestic leading and international advanced base of scientific research and application development by solving scientific problems and developing key technologies on material design, manufacturing and application.The discipline team carries out researches on scientific issues and key technologies in the directions of energy conversion and storage, energy saving material and technology, and sensing material and device.

  

Class II Plateau Discipline——Resource Recycling Science and Engineering                                                                                

Centered on national ecological civilization and resource recycling strategies, the construction of this discipline aims to solve significant technical and environmental problems that arise in the circulation process of "City Mineral Resources", mainly referred to WEEE recycling. It focuses on studying reverse logistics, recycling theory and technologies, and the high-value utilization of renewable materials. It also promotes the construction of plateau characteristic disciplines, leads and drives researches on efficient recycling utilization and industrialization of resources, mainly WEEE, in China (especially in the Yangtze River Delta) via mechanism innovation.
