Cooperation and Exchange

Based on the construction of the Centre and industry-university collaboration, the Centre integrates high quality innovative elements and resources at home and abroad through the innovation of system and mechanism. Led by Shanghai Polytechnic University,Shanghai Collaborative Innovation Centre for WEEE Recycling was constructed with the joint efforts ofgovernment, industry associations, university research force and manufacturing enterprises.

Launching a Strategic Alliance for Technological Innovation of Electronic Waste Recovery and Treatment Industry

Launched by the Centre, the Strategic Alliance for Technological Innovation of the Electronic Waste Recovery and Treatment Industry was established in Shanghai in 2014 in association withSolid Waste and Chemicals Management Center under Ministry of Ecology and Environment,State Environmental Protection Engineering Center for the Recycle Informatization and Treatment of Waste Electrical and Electronic Products, Shanghai Municipal Solid Waste Management Center,Basel Convention Regional Center for Asia and the Pacific(Tsinghua University), Research Center for Eco-environmental Sciences under Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Huaxin Environmental Co. Ltd.

Professional Training for Industry Practitioners

The Centre has worked withSolid Waste and Chemicals Management Center under Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and other units to undertake the training course of dismantling and treatment technology of waste electrical and electronic equipment.Up to now, more than 100 management personnel and technical staff from 72 processing enterprises of waste electrical and electronic equipment have participated in the training. The training includes policy and regulation interpretation, key technology analysis, high-tech equipment cases and recycling management system, which effectively improve the level of enterprise management and promote the development of core technology.

Achievement Exhibition

The Centre is actively engaged with the industry. Achievements of some excellent projects have been displayed in the China International Industrial Fair, the “Urban Mining” Exposition and China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair.

Undertaking International Academic Training Activities

The Centre cooperates regularly with UNU StEP (Solving the E-waste Problem Initiative), a well-known organization in the field of international electronic waste processing and management, andBasel Convention Regional Center for Asia and the Pacific(Tsinghua University). It has held the Fifth E-waste Academy – Scientists Edition, EWAS 2014, attracting 32 young scholars from 14 countries all over the world.

Domestic and International Exchanges

The Centre invites hundreds of experts and scholars at home and abroad to participate in the construction of the Centre’s Think Tank and academic and project exchange every year. Professor Eric Forssberg, academician of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering and foreign academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Engineering, US, and India Engineering Institute, was invited to serve as a member of the expert committee and guide the research and development of the Centre. The Centre also invited Professor Ab Stevels from Holland Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Armin Kienle and Hans-Jochen Lueckefett, experts of TechProtect GmBH, Germany, to join the project exchanges and postgraduate instruction.

Since 2013, the Centre has received four to six foreign students regularly each year for a three-month academic visit to the Centre. So far, the Centre has received more than ten foreign students from the University of Tuebingen in Germany, Hochschule für Technik Stuttgart in Germany, and University of Angers in France, and other universities.

The Centre, together with University of Maryland, University of California, University of Tuebingen in Germany, and National Institute for Environmental Studies in Japan, has established project cooperation and fixed academic exchange mechanism in terms of researches on technological innovation on recycling, standard formulation and legal norms of electronic waste.
