Australian Dragon Boat Training & Chinese Cultural Experience Program Concluded

    The Australian Dragon Boat Training & Chinese Cultural Experience Program held bySchool of International Exchange concluded recently. On the afternoon of Sept. 25, the ceremony for the program completion was held in Room 205 in the Academic Exchange Center of our university. Ms.Guat Sim Hayward, ambassador of sister city of Cairns (Australia), Qiao Liqing, Director of International Office, Sun Yan, Vice Dean of School of International Exchange, related teachers, student volunteers and all the members of the Australian training group attended the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Vice Dean Sun Yan.


    At the beginning of the ceremony, they reviewed the details of the training group's study and life in Shanghai Polytechnic University by watching a video.Ms. Guat Sim Hayward, ambassador of sister city of Cairns, thanked the university and the schools for their support and cooperation to the program in her address. She said she would continue to make efforts to the exchanges between our university and Australia. The teacher representative Lu Lidong made a speech. Trainee representatives Cheryl Hudson, Chairman of Townsville Dragon Boat Club, and Lorraine Stewart, Chairman of Cairns Dragon Boat Club, both made speeches. Qiao Liqing, Director of International Office, addressed finally. She thanked Ms. Guat Sim Hayward for her contributions to the exchanges between China and Australia in the last over ten years and spoke highly of the group members' sports spirit and their enthusiasm shown in learning traditional Chinese culture like ceramics, calligraphy, Tai Chi. She hoped the group members could take the deep friendship to Australia and make more contributions to promoting the exchanges between China and Australia. Director Qiao Liqing issued certificates of completion and albums of activities and other souvenirs to the trainees and issued certificates to the volunteers.

    Before the ceremony, President Yu Tao and Deputy Secretary Zou Longfei met with Jin Guoxiang, president of Shanghai Dragon Boat Association and Vice President of Chinese Dragon Boat Association, and Ms. Guat Sim Hayward, ambassador of sister city of Cairns, Australia. President Yu Tao thanked Shanghai Dragon Boat Association for the guidance to our work and thanked Ms. Guat Sim Hayward for her efforts to the cultural exchanges between our university and Australia. Deputy Secretary Zou Longfei exchanged ideas with President Jin Guoxiang in further improving the dragon boat teaching in our university with the support of the platform of Shanghai Dragon Boat Association.
