In the afternoon of May, 6, our debate team composed of Fan Siting, Zhou Zhuoyue, Wangzihang (English Department) and Qiu Tingyi (Public Relations Department) won the runner-up in the 9th Business English Debate Competition which was held in Shanghai Education Base of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

These four students who directed by Li Zujun, the teacher from College of Arts and Sciences, were the first time to join such competition. Eventually, they got to the finals with Shanghai Jiaotong University Team after competing with 180 teams in the rematch and the semi-finals. And Wang Zihang won the best debater award. The modesty and steady style of our students were highly praised by judges and enterprise representatives.

This competition was directed by CIE Modern Education Technology Branch and Shanghai Institute of Science Translation and held by the Institute and International English Education Research Association together. It made use of high-class business challenge type which is applied in American, which meant that the players should prepare solutions pointing to one business management topic encountered in the enterprise development, and present and debate the solution in English. This contest will help the students to use proper English in business. And lots of universities joined in. The participating universities in this year included Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Shanghai University, Tongji University and University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
