On the morning ofJune 18, commencement and degree awarding ceremony of Class of 2023 was held at SSPU Stadium. University leaders, leaders from joint education institutions for postgraduates, members of SSPU Academic Degree Evaluation Committee, teacher,enterprise and alumni representatives, leaders of all schools, heads ofteaching and research departments and relevant divisions, parent representatives and all graduates of Class of 2023 attended the ceremony. 3,832 graduates from now on embarked on a new journey with glory and dream. SSPU Vice President Xu Yufang presided over the ceremony.

The commencement was also broadcast live via SSPU official video account and attracted 34,000 viewers. Some of the graduates and their parents joined and witnessed this very moment online.

On behalf of all SSPU teachers and students, President Xie Huaqing extended warm congratulations to all the graduates of Class of 2023 who havesuccessfully completed their studies. He said the Class of 2023 is particularly fortunate and extraordinary. "Your growth resonated with the new era and witnessed the rapid development of the university", said the President, who later raised three hopes for all the graduates. Firstly, they should learnto adapt to the new environment, improve their ability, and bravely shoulderthe responsibilities in this era. Secondly, they should be diligent and keep learning to constantly update the cutting-edge knowledge of science, follow thetrend of technology application, and forge ahead in the tide of economic andsocial development. Thirdly, putting theory into practice and turning challenges into opportunities, the graduates are expected to contribute their parts to the development of the country.

Li Shiqun, a representative of SSPU alumni and a Mechanical Engineering graduate of Class of 2018, shared his work experience with everyone, and encouraged the students to persevere in their studies, be committed to their ideals and beliefs, keep the original mission firmly in mind, improve abilities by hardworking, and accumulate experience through practices.

Professor Wang Yuanyuan, Executive Dean of School of Energy and Materials, congratulated the graduates of Class of 2023 on behalf of all the faculty and put forward three expectations to the students. The first is lifelong learning, which means to learn from books, from work, from colleagues and from life. Thesecond is to be ambitious and have high aspirations and to find the meaning in their careers and recognize the value of their work. And the third is to keepan optimistic attitude and always learn from the failure.

Zhu Ke, a gold medalist in the freight forwarding event in the 46th WorldSkills Competition is a graduate majoring in Logistics Management of School ofEconomics and Management. She shared her growing experience at SSPU. It was the trainings and teachers’persistent instructions that helped her master solid professional skills and perform well in the WorldSkills Competition. In orderto express gratitude to the university, Zhu Ke, on behalf of all the graduates, presented the gold medal she won in the 46th WorldSkills Competition, the six badges of the Chinese team and the award certificate to SSPU. She wished SSPU tocultivate more excellent innovative and skilled talents in the future.
