Guest of Global University Systems and University of Europe for Applied Sciences Visits SSPU

On the morning of May 22, Prof. Maurits van Rooijen, Group Rector of Global University Systems (GUS) as well as President of University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) from Germany visited SSPU. SSPU President Xie Huaqing met with the guest. Heads of SSPU International Office, School of Economics and Management, and School of Art and Design attended the meeting.



A signing ceremony was held between SSPU and UE. President Xie Huaqing and President Maurits van Rooijen renewed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of the two universities. Under this framework agreement, both sides will cooperate in student exchange programs, faculty exchange, joint research, and joint organization of academic conferences, seminars and workshops, etc.



During the meeting, President Xie firstly welcomed President Maurits van Rooijen for visiting SSPU. He emphasized that SSPU is a university that boasts strengths in Engineering and well-coordinated development of disciplines in Management, Economics, Literature, Science, Arts and Education. Taking advantage of the university's strengths in Engineering, the disciplines of Economics and Management and Arts accelerated the construction closely facing the needs of economic and social development and formed their own unique advantages and characteristics. Since the establishment of cooperation between SSPU and UE in January 2018, the two sides have maintained close communication and exchanges, and established a deep friendship, which lays a solid foundation for cooperation. It is hoped that the two sides will take the renewal of this MOU as an opportunity to continue to strengthen interaction and communication, expand and deepen cooperation in various fields, and make joint efforts to bring the various collaborations to fruition as soon as possible on the basis of the previous friendly cooperation.


President Maurits van Rooijen expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome of SSPU. He made a brief introduction to GUS, and specifically introduced UE’s development history, the orientation and characteristics of the campuses, university-enterprise cooperation and the latest development. He said that UE attaches great importance to the internationalization of education and developing its partners, and that the cooperation between the two universities has a good foundation and great potential. UE is willing to further discuss the cooperation with SSPU and work together to yield more fruitful results.


During the meeting, Zhuo Wuyang, Dean of SSPU School of Economics and Management and Shen Fa, Dean of School of Art and Design introduced their schools and put forward their cooperation proposal.


Hoping to continue to strengthen multi-level exchanges, the two sides had in-depth discussions and reached consensuseson promoting student exchange programs and dual-degree programs at undergraduate and postgraduate level, exploring two-way short-term student exchange programs, establishment of workshops, preparatory programs, joint research, and co-hosting virtual art exhibitions, etc.


During the visit, President Maurits van Rooijen also had a lab tour to the Smart Manufacturing Factory Lab and School of Art and Design, and exchanged ideas with relevant heads and teachers present.
