From February 23 to March 2, SSPU delegation led by Lu Min, Secretary of SSPU Party Committee, visited Universidade Europeia (UE Portugal) in Portugal, Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and Universidad Europea de Madrid (UE Madrid) in Spain. The visit expanded SSPU's cooperation with European universities in terms of faculty and student exchange, scientific research collaboration, joint education programs, and Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools, etc. Multiple important consensuses were reached and fruitful results were achieved.
During the visit to Universidade Europeia in Portugal, the delegation participated in the university’s 2025 International Week events. Rector Hélia Gonçalves Pereira and Vice Rector Paulo Vieira of UE Portugal had a discussion with the delegation on the theme of Redesigning Learning Approaches to Meet Future Challenges. The two sides explored collaborations including co-supervision of graduate students through faculty exchanges and planned to renew the cooperation agreement in the first half of this year. The delegation then had a campus tour to the university’s research and teaching facilities and laboratories to gain a firsthand understanding of its teaching and research models, further deepening the connotation and improving the quality of bilateral exchange and collaboration.
During their visit to Spain, the delegation paid a visit to the Chinese Embassy in Spain where an SSPU faculty member Wang Beibin is currently on secondment. Mr. Yao Jing, Chinese Ambassador to Spain, met with the delegation. Lu Min briefed Ambassador Yao on SSPU’s distinctive educational features and recent development. Ambassador Yao praised the university’s commitment to industry-education-research integration, and noted that with Spain’s significant demand for talent development in areas such as new energy and smart technologies, it is encouraged that SSPU further cooperates with Spanish educational institutions to strengthen cooperation in joint education programs, high-level talent training, scientific research, etc. He also stated that the Embassy would continue to actively support exchanges and cooperation between SSPU and Spanish universities and institutions.
While visiting Universitat Politècnica de València, Vice Rector Jose F. Monserrat welcomed the delegation. The two sides had an in-depth discussion on student exchanges, short-term study or internship programs, workshops and university-industry collaborations in the fields of Engineering, Arts, etc. The delegation also visited the UPV’s Innovation Polytechnic Hub, Heritage Restoration University Research Institute (IRP) and Energy Engineering University Research Institute (IIE). Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in student mobility, joint education, research collaboration, etc.
During the visit to Universidad Europea de Madrid, the two universities exchanged ideas on various collaboration including foreign expert program, student exchange, joint training of postgraduate, co-supervision of doctoral students, joint laboratories, etc. During the meeting, both sides signed the Memorandum of Understanding for renewal and further clarified the direction and goals of cooperation, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration. The delegation later paid a visit to the university’s School of Biomedical and Health Sciences, School of Architecture, Engineering, Science and Computing-STEAM and International Relations Office as well as teaching and research facilities.
Heads and representatives from SSPU School of Resources and Environmental Engineering, School of Computer and Information Engineering, School of Energy and Materials, School of Art and Design and International Office were in the delegation.
