On the morning of June 24, SSPU Commencement Ceremony 2018 was held and 3021 undergraduates, junior college students and postgraduates gathered in the ceremony. Chair Song Baoru, President Yu Tao, Vice Chiar Wu Peidong, Vice President Mo Liangjin, Vice President Xu Yufa, Vice President Xie Huaqing and Vice President Xu Yufang attended the ceremony. Representatives of cooperative education units, Pudong New Area Caolu Township Committee People’s Government, alumni, members of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of SSPU, teachers, heads of relevant departments and parents of graduating students were present. Vice President Mo Liangjin presided over the Commencement.

In President Yu Tao’s enthusiastic remark he began with his warm congratulations to all the graduating students on the successful conclusion of their study and a new start of life, and addressed the ceremony from a dialectic angle of “Change and not change”. He stated,” First, be brave to change. We should never let mediocrity plague our dream, never let easiness wear down our enthusiasm, but never cease to striving and moving forward. Second, be good at changing. We should be courageous to make breakthroughs, accumulate experiences and broaden our horizon. Third, keep unchanged in change. He hopes that all of the graduates become the youth who have a feeling for home and country with not only cultural and art attainment, noble morality, and a kind heart, but also with professional proficiency, and integrates their dreams into the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.

Vice President Xu Yufang announced the decision of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of SSPU. Chair Song and President Yu granted representatives of junior College students diplomas, and presented undergraduates and postgraduates representatives diplomas and certificates of degrees.

Alumnus representative Xu Xiao, Founder of Zbird, also made a speech in which she shared her story in SSPU and experience of entrepreneurship, and encouraged the graduating students to challenge themselves and stay optimistic while facing setbacks. Postgraduate, undergraduate and junior college representatives Xu Xiaobing, Zhou Zhenbing and Ge Haonan all expressed their gratitude to SSPU in their speeches and stated that they would bear in mind teachers’ edification and begin a new life. Yao Li from School of Economics and Management delivered her best wishes on behalf of all teachers to the students. Yan Zeming, student of College of Engineering, presented a gift to SSPU as a student representative and Chair Song received the gift on behalf of the University.

The Commencement came to an end in the song “Graduation Song” and the whole process was live on the internet. Over 20,000 people were watching it online.
