Delegation Headed by President Yu Tao Visit Universities in New Zealand and Australia

From July 29 to Aug 5, SSPU delegation headed by President Yu Tao visited Media Design School (MDS) in New Zealand, Torrens University, Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (BMIHMS) and TAFE Queensland (TQ) in Australia. Fruitful achievements have been gained during the visit.

   

On July 30, the delegation visited Media Design School in New Zealand and was welcomed by President Darryn Melrose and heads of relevant majors. President Yu introduced the development history and basic information about SSPU, the schooling concept of profession-oriented higher education and the prospect of international cooperation. President Darryn Melrose briefed the current development of MDS, accompanied the delegation to see the ongoing situation of relevant majors and the delegation exchanged ideas with the faculty and students. Both sides made a consensus on expanding the cooperation scale, exploring more collaborative channels and starting student exchange after discussion and field trips.


   


On the morning of Aug. 1, the delegation visited TAFE Queensland in Australia. The two sides had an in-depth discussion to further implement the overseas education program evaluation of ASQA, teaching quality assurance, teachers’ capability enhancement, teacher and student exchange and credit recognition by both sides. President Yu pointed out that SSPU, as the only Sino-foreign cooperative institution of TAFE Queensland in China, has an 18-year cooperation history between each other and a solid foundation for mutual collaboration. He hoped that the two sides could draw on strengths and make more efforts to promote the programs. Paul Wilson, General Manager of TQ, also expected to carry out better cooperation after the conversation, and expressed the intention of sharing advantages and resources with SSPU to improve the quality and brand influence of TQ. As for the problems and difficulties recently occurred in teaching, the General Manager fully understood the situation and was willing to figure out solutions by means of cooperation. The two sides eventually reached a consensus on the implementation plan and the schedule for improvement and promotion. 

   

In the afternoon, accompanied by Paul Wilson, the delegation visited the teaching and practice base and business entity. President Yu also had a discussion with Brain Zhang,Manager of Global EngagementTAFE Queensland. During the conversation, both sides reached a consensus on expanding cooperation and the SSPU-led world-class vocational education bridge by integrating the educational strength of Queensland and giving full play to SSPU’s geographical advantage of Pudong New Area and vocational education resources. 

   



On Aug. 3, the delegation visited Torren University in Australia and had a conversation with Linda Brown, CEO of Laureate Australia and New Zealand and President of Torrens University, and Philip Fung, Director of International Engagement of Laureate International Universities and Torrens University. The two sides reached an agreement on online course and cooperation of the major of Hospitality Management. After the meeting, both sides had an experience of small-class teaching of relevant majors, and looked around professional teachers’ offices, Recruitment Office, Administration Offices, etc.

   



On the same day, accompanied by Philip Fung, the delegation visited BMIHMS in Sidney and was warmly welcomed by President Melinda McLeod and the leadership of the School. The delegation attended a luncheon themed by “Pirates of the Caribbean” planed by the students of the major of Hospitality and Event Planning. During the banquet, both Presidents of SSPU and BMIHMS respectively introduced the schooling concept and characteristics of each institution and discussed deeply into further cooperation by integrating major advantages of both sides. In the afternoon, accompanied by President McLeod, the delegation gained a comprehensive understanding of the teaching, practice and student life of BMIHMS by the campus tour. President Yu stated that SSPU will enhance the collaboration with BMIHMS, learn the advanced teaching methods and concepts from BMIHMS so as to push forward the teacher and student exchange between each other and comprehensively improve the teaching quality of Hospitality Management and Event Planning and Management of SSPU.

   



Representatives of Recruitment and Employment Office, International Office and College of International Vocational Education, and relevant professional teachers were in the delegation.
