On the morning of Feb.26, 2022 opening ceremony of Shanghai Model Worker College was held at SSPU. Three classes were launched at the same time. They are Experimental Class of Model Workers opened by Shanghai Municipal Labor Union, Training Class of Model Workers and Technical Workers for Shanghai Electric Group Co., Ltd. and Training Class of Model Workers for COMAC Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Ltd. More than 150 model workers and outstanding individuals will enter the university and participate in two-year or three-year pathway program from high school education to higher vocational education, pathway program from higher vocation education to undergraduate education or program of master's degree level in their spare time. The training classes will help them obtain higher academic qualification and literacy, enhance professional knowledge and skills to better play their exemplary and leading role as model workers and outstanding individuals in actual production and lifelong learning.

Mr. Wu Song, Secretary of SSPU Party Committee, delivered a welcome speech on the ceremony. He stated that SSPU will fully support the running of Shanghai Model Worker College, actively allocate high-quality teaching resources, innovate the teaching mode, and create good learning environment for students. The university will explore new ways to educate people with the spirit of model workers, and become the pioneer to introduce model workers into the campus in Shanghai. And the university will carry out in-depth research on model worker culture and better promote the spirit of model workers.

Ms. Gui Xiaoyan, Vice Chairman ofShanghai Municipal Labor Union, read the speech of the Economic Work Department of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions.

Mr. Bao Qifan, Dean of Shanghai Model Worker College, introduced the situation of the College.

SSPU President Xie Huaqing announced the list of specially appointed professors of Shanghai Model Worker College. Ms. Huang Hong, Party Secretary and Vice Chairman ofShanghai Municipal Labor Union, conferred certificates of appointment to 18 specially appointed professors present. Ms. Huang Baomei made a speech as a specially appointed professor representative. Mr. Qian Xuhong, President of East China Normal University, presented a gift to the College.

Mr. Wang Ping, Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission delivered a speech to express congratulations to the students.

Mr. Mo Fuchun, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress and Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Labor Union made a concluding speech.

After the ceremony, Ms. Gui Xiaoyan, Vice Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Labor Union, and Mr. Bao Qifan, Dean of Shanghai Model Worker College, gave the first lesson to the students.

Shanghai Model Worker College was jointly established by Shanghai Municipal Labor Union and Shanghai Polytechnic University in February 2021. This time, in order to meet the needs of model workersand outstanding individualsin terms ofimprovingacademic qualificationand comprehensive literacy, the College organizesExperimental Class of Model Workers opened by Shanghai Municipal Labor Union, Training Class of Model Workers and Technical Workers for Shanghai Electric Group Co., Ltd. and Training Class of Model Workers for COMAC Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Ltd.The classes focus on key industries such as high-end equipment, electronic information and machinery manufacturing. The College has specially invited 30 academicians, famous model workers and craftsmen from renowned universities and research institutes in China as special appointed professors. In addition, 30 team leaders of important posts, model workers and outstanding individuals from well-known central enterprises and leading domestic manufacturing enterprises will be invited. The “double tutorial system” training mode (both academic tutor and post tutor), and the "dual education system" for training technical workers, are helpful for the students to improve their theoretical ability and become innovative in their positions, effectively transferring the learning outcome into new momentum of innovation and development.
