From March 30 to 31, SSPUFirst International Youth Scholars Forum was held. The forum consisted of 4 sub-forums, which were Low-Carbon Energy Materials and Systems, Intelligent Manufacturing Innovative Technology and Application, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science, andEnvironmental Governance and Low-Carbon Development. Over 50 outstanding youthscholars from 36 universities and enterprises from home and abroad participated in the forum online. The participants came from overseas renowned higher education institutions including Purdue University, U.S., École Centrale de Marseille, France, University of Tasmania, Australia, University of Ulsan, Korea, De Montfort University, U.K., Dongseo University, Korea, etc., and from domestic universities such as Tsinghua University, Fudan University, University of Science and Technology of China, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Beijing Normal University, Central South University, etc.
The opening ceremony of the forum was held on the morning of March 30. SSPU President Xie Huaqing addressed the ceremony on behalf of the university. President Xie introduced SSPU and the features of its 4 engineering schools. He expected that the sharing of excellent research achievements among all participating scholars in this forum could sparkle new thoughts and create more cooperation opportunities. Wu Peidong, Deputy Secretary of SSPU Party Committee presided over the opening ceremony. The four sub-forums respectively began after the ceremony.
The theme of sub-forum I was Low-Carbon Energy Materials and Systems. Wang Yuanyuan, Vice Dean of School of Energy and Materials (SEM), presided over the sub-forum and 19 youth doctors with a PhD from well-known universities around the globe delivered academic reports.Focusing on new energy materials and devices that serve thecarbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, the speakers reported on topics like energy conversion materials, devices and systems such as solar photovoltaic and photothermal utilization, materials and devices for efficient energy storage, thermal management materials and systems for electronic devices, big data onthermal-physical properties, etc.Members of SEM Academic Affairs Committee, relevant teachers and postgraduates participated in the forum and had a heated discussion with the youth scholars.
The theme of sub-forum II wasIntelligent Manufacturing Innovative Technology and Application. Wang Zhifeng, Dean of School of Intelligent Manufacturing and Control Engineering (IMCE) presided over the sub-forum. 10 outstanding youth scholars from domestic and foreign universities shared their latest research achievements in the fields of innovative technologies in intelligent manufacturing, design of key components of intelligent equipment, fault monitoring and diagnosis in manufacturing system, etc. They also had an in-depth discussion on teaching and research in higher education institutions with the attending IMCE teachers.
The theme of sub-forum III wasArtificial Intelligence and Computer Science. The sub-forum was co-hosted by Jiang Chuanqun,Party Secretary ofSchool ofComputer and Information Engineering(SCIE), and Zhang Bofeng, Dean of SCIE. 10 outstanding youth scholars worldwide were invited to the forum and exchanged ideas with SCIE teachers and students through keynote speeches focusing on some frontier topics in the fields of computer science, artificial intelligence, communication engineering, etc. All participants had in-depth discussions on some academic problems of common interest.
The theme of sub-forum IV was Environmental Governance and Low-Carbon Development. It was jointly hosted by Wang Jifen, Party Secretary of School of Resources and Environmental Engineering (SREE) and Prof. Guan Jie. High quality academic reports were given by 16 invited youth scholars from domestic universities. The reports focused on the cutting-edge topics such as technology and equipment for high value utilization of solid waste, new theory, technology and process of pollution control, environmental ecosystem engineering and big data development, air pollution control, mechanism tracing and response to climate change, global environmental issues and governance, low carbon technology and sustainable development, etc. Members of SREE Academic Affairs Committee and all faculty joined in the forum and exchanged ideas with the scholars.
The International Youth Scholars Forum is a platform for the youth talents from all over the world to have exchanges on frontier and hot research areas and promote deep cooperation. It will effectively push forward the academic exchanges and collaboration among the youth scholars.
