From Nov.1 to Nov.2, 2018, the 20thCross-Strait Conference on Higher Technical and Vocational Education was held at Shenzhen Polytechnic. The Conference has attracted over 100 representatives from cross-strait universities. President Yu Tao, nearly 10 teachers on behalf of relevant departments and colleges (schools), and 5 student representatives attended the Conference.
On the Conference, President Yu gave a keynote speech themed by “Intelligent Era: Change and Not Change”. From the perspective of SSPU orientation, he vividly elaborated SSPU’s Profession-oriented Higher Education, introduced the changes in its governance structure, disciplines and programs, teaching management and space construction, and its unwavering efforts in schooling orientation, university-enterprise collaboration, quality culture, international cooperation, model worker spirit education and putting people first. In his remark, President Yu also stated that SSPU would continue to carry out rational, responsible and international education.
In the interaction activity “A Conversation between Presidents and Students from Cross-strait Universities”, 9 Presidents delivered speeches and exchanged views with student representatives. During the conversation, they also proposed suggestions and solutions to the questions and doubts raised by students.
Under the theme of “Reform of Applied Higher Education in Intelligent Era”, the Conference this year was held in form of themed report, roundtable forum and seminar, etc. Participants discussed and exchanged ideas on the adaption of cross-strait applied higher education in the AI era, and on their cultivation of high-quality applied talents to meet the demand of future economic development. All present universities shared their own innovative and reform work and practices in moral and quality education, innovation and entrepreneurship education, curriculum design, teaching quality assurance system, etc. 15 papers of SSPU teachers were included into the conference proceedings.
Cross-Strait Conference on Higher Technical and Vocational Education, co-sponsored by SSPU, Shenzhen Polytechnic, Beijing Union University and Taipei University of Technology, has been held for 20 years. The 21stConference will be held at Chaoyang University of Technology in 2019.
