On the morning of Nov. 28, Prof. Paolo Cardini, Director of the Graduate Program in Industrial Design from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD, US), visited SSPU. Vice President Xie Huaqing met with the guest. Heads and teachers from International Office and School of Applied Arts and Design attended the meeting.
Vice President Xie Huaqing welcomed Prof. Paolo Cardini and expressed gratitude to him for promoting the cooperation between the two universities. He introduced that the university develops the non-Engineering disciplines by following the principle of “based on Engineering, serving Engineering and guiding Engineering”. And School of Applied Arts and Design has formed its own characteristics of development through exploration and practice of this principle. He also introduced the features and achievements in the international exchange, industry-education integration and master workshops of School of Applied Arts and Design.
Prof. Paolo Cardini expressed his willingness of becoming the bridge of communication between the two sides and hoped that both sides could discover more cooperation and exchange both at university level and among professors. The two sides exchanged views on teacher cooperation, student exchange, joint research, etc.
After the meeting, Prof. Paolo Cardini visited School of Applied Arts and Design. During his stay in Shanghai, he was also invited to give a lecture of SSPU “Grand Vision” English lecture series. The speech themed Why Design Must Be Critical? was given at Baoshan Science and Innovation Park.
