Dec. 13, 2018 | College of Engineering

On Dec. 11, International Bridge Building Contest 2018 was held at Academic Exchange Center of SSPU. SSPU and other four universities including Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU), Germany, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Poland, University of Zielona Góra, Poland, and Technical University of Liberec,Czech, joined the contest together through an online platform. Team “Bridge will tell” ranked the first among 17 SSPU teams.

For equality, all five universities adopted the same competition rules and used building materials with the same requirements. The Contest set the span and height of the bridge and took the proportionality coefficient of the carrying capacity and the dead load as the evaluation criteria. The simple materials—wooden ice-cream sticks and ropes—made the building more challenging but nevertheless aroused the participants’ enthusiasm. Heads of Academic Affairs Office, International Office, Information Office and College of Engineering attended the activity.

International Bridge Building Contest was launched by SSPU and BTU in 2014. The ranking is decided by the proportionality coefficient of the carrying capacity and the dead load of the bridges designed and made by the students.
